Author Name:

About the Author:
Article Text: Most cases of mild can be improved with "over-the-counter" products, or products that don't require a prescription from your doctor. There is a wide range of treatments available, and there’s a good chance one of them will work for you. If you start treatment before your gets severe, you’ll have a better chance of avoiding physical and emotional problems down the road. But if your gets worse or lasts more than a couple of weeks, see a dermatologist.

Harsh skin care products should not be used. These dry out the skin to a great extent thereby causing the sebaceous glands to secrete more oil which blocks pores of skin and creates more acne. Exfoliation of the skin should be done periodically to get rid of dead cells blocking pores. This will keep at bay.

There are 2 ways to treat acne, topical (applied to the skin) or systematic (taken by mouth). Both over the counter (OTC) (meaning no prescription is necessary) remedies are available. The goals of treatment are to heal existing lesions, to prevent new lesions forming, stop scarring, minimize psychological stress and embarrassment caused by the disease. Drug treatment is aimed at reducing several problems that play a part in causing acne: abnormal clumping of the cells in the follicles, increased oil production, bacteria, and inflammation.

Benzoyl peroxide is a common treatment. It is an exfoliant and therefore helps to remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface. It also prevents bacteria from multiplying on the skin. It may come in gel, cream, or lotion form. And it may also be found in combination with sulphur which is another exfoliation agent. Benzoyl peroxide helps to prevent the development of new blemishes and clear up ones that are already present. It needs to be used on a daily basis and may initially cause itching, redness, and dryness. Skin will slowly show improvement over time with continued usage.

Acne isn't really helped by the sun, either. Although a suntan can temporarily make look less severe, it won't help it go away permanently. So don't soak up those rays - either under the sun or from a tanning bed - in an effort to help your skin.

The skin is the largest organ in our body and it eliminates toxic body waste through the pores when we sweat. If the body has more toxins than the liver or kidneys can discharge the skin takes over. Many doctors actually refer to the skin as the third kidney. When toxins discharge through the skin they can cause a disruption in the healthy skin and you have pimples.
